The Democrats are obsessed with rewriting history. They cite things like Confederate statues as things of the past that- since tainted by slavery and racism- are too offensive to keep all these years later. If that’s the case, then they should put their money where their mouth is. Because they have done oh so much more bad things in their 200 year history and if they actually believed what they said then they would disband the Democratic Party. It in of itself is a monument to corruption and crime.
Now take my argument at face value. I am not literally saying the Democratic Party should disband or those in it today are guilty of the deeds of things that they took no part in. What I am merely doing is using their argument to point out the logical flaws in it, while explaining that they have the least say in terms of what is good and bad.
Let’s start with the inception of the Democratic Party: the Presidency of Andrew Jackson. Jackson has been hailed both by Republicans and Democrats alike as one of our greatest presidents who ushered in a period of democracy. But what everyone seems to forget is that he also literally trampled over the Constitution and went against Supreme Court Justice John Marshall when Marshall attempted to protect Native Americans in their lands in North Carolina, Alabama and elsewhere, stating “Justice Marshall has made his ruling. Now let him enforce it” and went ahead with removal in the grisly Trail of Tears which would lead to the deaths of over 16,000 Native Americans. He also caused a recession which was then blamed on his successor.
The Civil War has often been described as North vs. South, but that is slightly inaccurate as there are several instances of Northerners and Southerners swapping loyalties to the opposing side. A more accurate rendition would be Republicans and pro-Union Democrats vs. the rest of the Democrats, as the election of the first Republican to the White House brought about the Secession, and the fact that virtually no Republicans fought for the Confederacy. And the Democrats fought the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendment all the way and gave virtually no support.
In the years that followed they did a lot of other pretty bad things, such as Jim Crow, lynchings, and the revival of the KKK by Woodrow Wilson watching Klan propaganda in the White House as well as hiring notorious racists (which emboldened the KKK immensely).
Let’s not forget Japanese Internment during World War 2 by FDR. Liberals praise him as a forward thinking progressive but forget that little detail.
Now, I am not saying that the Republican Party is not guilty of anything, because they are- although certainly to a smaller degree of the Democratic Party. My point is that the Democratic Party does not deserve to claim moral high ground in stating that certain things are bad because of their past and get to choose what is offensive and wrong when they are guilty by their standards of that.
